Yuejin HuaYuejin Hua


Yuejin Hua is a leading figure in the national key discipline of Biophysics at Zhejiang University, a Changjiang Scholar Professor appointed by the Ministry of Education, and a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Fund. He also enjoys a special subsidy from the State Council. He serves as the President of the Chinese Society of Atomic Energy Agriculture and as the Vice Chairman of the Committee on the Origin and Evolution of Life of the Chinese Space Science Society, and has successively led more than ten national-level projects, including the “973” Program, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Outstanding Youth Fund, key international cooperation projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, public welfare research projects, the national major transgenic project, and the national major science and technology project for new drug creation. His major research interests are in the adaptation to extreme environments and the mechanisms of DNA damage response using the extremely radioresistant bacterium Deinococcus radiodurans, and more than 160 papers have been published in important SCI journals such as Nature, Nature Communications, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Nuclear Acids Research, and eLife. Meanwhie, Yuejin Hua serves on the editorial boards of international journals such as Frontiers in Microbiology and Life, as well as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Nuclear Agricultural Sciences. So far, he has been granted 13 international and national invention patents, while his research findings on the “Discovery and identification of DNA repair switch genes” were selected as one of the “Top Ten Scientific and Technological Advances in Chinese Universities (the only recipient)” and his work on the “New DNA damage response pathway and its regulatory mechanisms” won the first prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Award (as the first recipient).
