Yao KunlunYao Kunlun


Yao Kunlun, Ph.D. in Science, researcher, member of the China Writers Association, member of the China Popular Science Writers Association, and delegate at the 10th National Congress of the China Writers Association. He has previously worked at the Popularization Department of the China Association for Science and Technology and the Office for National Science and Technology Awards. He has served as an adjunct or visiting professor at several universities in China, including Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing University of Technology, and Zhejiang University of Technology. Currently, he is the Chief Editor and Executive President of the "China High-Tech" journal. Yao Kunlun has excelled in both literature and sciences, dedicating his career to scientific research, the integration of science and culture, science communication, and science management.

In his scientific research, he has published over 50 papers and authored specialized books such as "Exploring Cultural Relics" and "An Overview of Science and Technology Awards in China and Abroad". He has undertaken more than 10 national research projects and authored over 30 research reports. In the field of science and humanities, he has written a series of biographies of renowned Chinese scientists, including "The Biography of Yuan Longping" (the father of hybrid rice worldwide), "The Biography of Wang Yongzhi" (the first chief designer of China's manned space Engineering ), and "The Biography of Tu Guangzhi" (the pioneer of geochemistry in China). He has also written medium-length biographies of over 20 prominent scientists such as Wang Xuan, Zhong Nanshan, Sun Jiadong, Zhang Boli, Wang Zeshan, and Li Deren. In total, he has published 10 specialized books and participated in the writing and editing of over 20 scientific books. He has also published more than 200 articles on science, popular science, and culture in authoritative newspapers and magazines such as "People's Daily", "Guangming Daily", and "Science and Technology Daily", totaling over six million characters.

Yao has actively promoted scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and Europe. He participated in organizing the "China-Europe Science and Technology Achievement Management Exchange Conference" and has been involved in promoting European and Russian experts in receiving the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China. Notable recipients include Micheal Petzet, chairman of the International Council on Monuments and Sites and professor from Germany, who won the award in 2000; Elio Matacena, president of the Archimedes Bridge company from Italy, who won in 2003; and N.L. Dobretsov, vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences and chairman of the Siberian Committee for Science and Technology, who won in 2007.

He has been awarded the "Advanced Individual in the Implementation of the Outline of the National Plan for Scientific Literacy" by nine ministries including the China Association for Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Education. He has also received a nomination for the "Five Ones" Project Award from the Ministry of Propaganda, second and third prizes for Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress, and the second China Management Science Innovation Award from the Chinese Society of Management Science. His specialized book "Dreams of the Earth: The Biography of Yuan Longping" was recognized as innovative teaching material for cadre education and training by the Organization Department of the Central Committee, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the National Library. In May 2020, it was included in the first list of recommended reading for middle and elementary school students issued by the Ministry of Education.
