Xianping DingXianping Ding


Xianping Ding, male, serves as a professor of Sichuan University, famous scientist of life sciences in China, academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the director of the Key Laboratory of Featured Biological Resource Research and Utilization Jointly Built by Sichuan and Chongqing. Ding has engaged in scientific research and talent cultivation in the fields of genetics, genomics and stem cells, took the lead to construct the resource bank of the germplasm of chimonobambusa in China and conducted genomic research on Chinese chimonobambusa. He finished the whole-genome study of the world-level endangered plant, artocarpus nanchuanensis He also undertook and finished over 20 national and provincial programs of scientific research, published more than 200 articles, among which more than 100 articles are collected by SCI and MEDLINE and compiled and published 8 monographs, textbooks, etc.

Upon the joint approval of Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province and Science and Technology Commission of Chongqing conducted in 2012, Professor Xianping Ding took the lead to establish the first key laboratory jointly built by parties across the provinces in China, "the Key Laboratory of Featured Biological Resource Research and Utilization Jointly Built by Sichuan and Chongqing". As the earliest key laboratory built together by Sichuan and Chongqing, the laboratory has gone through ups and downs for more than ten years and grown up. Now, it has been a practitioner of the national strategy of the economic circle covering two cities of Chengdu and Chongqing, demonstrator; of the construction of the supporting power of the scientific and technological industry in the western area and leader who undertakes the arrangement of important scientific and technological productivity of China.

Professor Xianping Ding took the lead to devote himself to the construction of the economic circle of the economic circle covering two cities of Chengdu and Chongqing. Except for a large group of masters and doctors cultivated in his career of teaching and scientific research, he also developed more than 10 new products and won more than 10 awards of scientific and technological progress. He listed artocarpus as a prior subject of the key laboratory and took the lead to carry out systematic research on the world-level endangered plant, artocarpus nanchuanensis, including the study of the whole genome, analysis of the functional genome and study of the plant's pharmacodynamic components. After the genomic analysis and "genetic code" cracking for about 5 years, the whole-genome sequencing of the world-level endangered plant artocarpus nanchuanensis and systematic of artificial breeding to enable such an endangered plant to get rid of the crisis of "procreation". He also conducted systematic study of Chinese chimonobambusa. With the support of the bureaus of science and technology of Chongqing and Nanshan District, he founded the first germplasm resource bank of chimonobambusa in China and made chimonobambusa on the Jinfo Mountain become a "cash crop" that "goes downhill" and doesn't highly depend on the environment. Elite breeding and promotion of the oil crop idesia polycarpa conducted by him make idesia polycarpa become the oil tank on trees. With the promotion of his partners and him, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration approved and established "the Center of Idesia Polycarpa Engineering Technology Research of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration", and Xianping Ding serves as the chief scientist. Over the years, Xianping Ding and his key laboratory jointly built by Sichuan and Chongqing always faced on featured biological resources of Sichuan-Chongqing area and even the whole country to carry out basic studies, application studies and development studies and gradually transformed some rare and featured biological resources to the source of local residents' wealth. Due to this reason, his team of featured biological resources won the title of the Team of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Chongqing in 2017. He was selected as one of "Talents of Chongqing: Talents of Innovation and Entrepreneurship" in 2019 and selected as a foreign academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 2021. In 2024, he was also selected as the candidate of the "Program of Ten-thousand Talents".

In 2022, Xianping Ding took the lead to coordinate and establish "the Center of Collaborative Innovation of Cell Preparation Equipment of the Double-city Area of Chengdu and Chongqing" in two places of Chengdu and Chongqing. The center gathered outstanding specialists of cytology, medicine, genetics and other disciplines in Chengdu and Chongqing to carry out basic research, application research and medicine research on stem cells and the system of immune cells. The center is located in the Jinniu District of Chengdu and Nanshan District of Chongqing, with the experimental site of over 10000 square meters, in which the storage of stem cells and immune cells, cell preparation and cellular medicine research and development are conducted. At present, the program of "stem cell drugs treating ophthalmic diseases, slim endometrium restoration and premature ovarian failure restoration" has acquired abundant achievements, and the center also established a research platform of IPS stem cells and a talent cultivation base of stem cells.

Born in Nanchuan, Academician Xianping Ding has a keen affection for his hometown. To take care of the psychological health of primary school students in his hometown, he personally presided over the construction of the Nanchuan Working Station of the Professional Commission of Psychological Health of Sichuan Comprehensive Health Industry Association in Nanchuan in 2021 and founded the Association of Teenager Psychological Health of Nanchuan District with the great support of the Education Commission of Nanchuan District to systematically conduct psychological health screening and psychological problem intervention of the students in primary schools and middle schools in the district, making the work related to the psychological health of teenagers in the Nanchuan District highly praised by related departments of Chongqing. In the last year, Academician Ding also took the lead to establish the Association of Teenager Psychological Health of Jiangjin District in the Jiangjin District of Chongqing to systematically carry out teenager psychological health caring in the district, which was high praised by schools, parents and students.

The key laboratory jointly established by Sichuan and Chongqing has gone through the course of over ten years. Academician Ding's Chengdu-Chongqing cell centers that are constructed on the basis of Chengdu and Chongqing and face the whole world also obtain many achievements. They have been examples of the cooperative development of the double-city economic circle and the template to be learnt and referred to by the whole country. At present, Xianping Ding and his team have established the "Research Center of Precision Medicine and Stem Cells of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" in the Huangpu District of Guangzhou. At the same time, Academician Ding also joins the construction team of the international free trade island of Hainan and prepares for the construction of the "Key Laboratory Jointly Constructed by Hainan, Sichuan and Chongqing" to absorb talents of innovative science and technology of precision medicine and stem cell studies at home and abroad on the basis of the platform with a higher level and create the national ecosphere of stem cells of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Hainan International Free Trade Island. At the end of the last year, Academician Ding signed a cooperative agreement with the Demonstrative Area of Life Health of Beidaihe to jointly construct the "Institute of Technical Innovation of Cellular Industry of Beidaihe. At present, he is constructing the Center of Stem Cell Quality Control of the Demonstrative Area of Life Health of Beidaihe and carrying out the work of stem cell quality supervision and management in the demonstrative area. Recently, with the promotion of Science & Technology Department of Sichuan and Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau, Academician Ding and his team are seeking for cooperation with relevant parties of Russia and plan to construct a "collaborative innovation platform of biological medicine based on the China-Russia cooperation". Xianping Ding is leading his team to march in the international stage of life sciences.
