Wei ZhangWei Zhang


Professor Wei Zhang, Junwu Scholar (Category C) of Guangxi University, is the head of department of mechanics, professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, GuangXi University. He also is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Beijing University of Technology.

The candidate for the academician of the Academy of Sciences was nominated by the Chinese Vibration Engineering Society and China Association for Science and Technology in 2019, 2021 and 2023. Currently, he holds the positions of executive director of the Chinese Society of Vibration Engineering, director of the Nonlinear Vibration Committee of the Chinese Society of Vibration Engineering, and director of the Chinese Society of Mechanics. He serves as the associate editor of the international journal "Journal of Vibration Engineering & Technologies", the associate editor of the international journal "International Journal of Dynamics and Control", editorial board member of the international journal "Archive of Applied Mechanics", and editorial board member of the international journal "Mathematics". He is a judge of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and an expert of the Mechanics Discipline Review Team of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is a member of the academic committees of several national key laboratories, as well as provincial and ministerial key laboratories.

In 1997, he received Ph. D. in general mechanics from the Department of Mechanics of Tianjin University and was promoted to professor in the same year. In 1990, he received Master Degree in general mechanics from the Department of Mechanics of Tianjin University. In 1982, he received Bachelor Degree in machine design from the Department of Machine of Jiangnan University. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Western Ontario in Canada in 1999, a visiting professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto in Canada in 2002, and a visiting professor at the City University of Hong Kong many times. He was a recipient of the Overseas Young Scholars Collaborative Research Fund (the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars B) project in 2003 and the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2004. In 2007 and 2018, he was awarded the Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation. In 2012, he was awarded the National Natural Science Foundation's Major Program. In 2014, he was awarded the National Natural Science Foundation's major national scientific research instrument development project. He has undertaken more than 10 various natural science fund projects.

In 2022, he won the first prize of the Science and Technology Award (Basic Research) of the Chinese Society of Vibration Engineering and was the first recipient; in 2020 he won the first prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Award and was the fourth recipient; in 2010, he won the third prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award (Basic Research) and was the first recipient; in 2004 he won the second prize of the Tianjin Nature Science Award and was the second recipient; in 2002, he won the second prize of the Tianjin Nature Science Award and was the second recipient; in 1999, he won the third prize of the Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award and was the first recipient.

He is very well-known for his researches on the high-dimensional nonlinear complex dynamics, bifurcation and chaos, nonlinear vibration and control of aero-engine blade structures, nonlinear dynamics in new material plate and shell structures, nonlinear dynamics of aerospace aircraft plate and shell structures, etc. Published 464 high-level academic papers in international academic journals, which were included in SCI, 8 papers were included in Highly Cited ESI, cited 10,228 times by SCI papers, and SCI papers were cited 7,683 times by other authors. Published 7 academic monographs in Science Press and Chemical Industry Press. Elsevier China Highly Cited Scholars from 2019 to 2022, selected into the top 2% of scientists in the world. Two of his Ph.D. students won the Beijing Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award in 2008 and 2022, while 2009 saw the National Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Nomination Award won by another one of his students.
