Professor Tinghua Wang, a doctor of medicine from West China Medical University (previous)/Sichuan University (now) and a postdoctoral fellow in France, has been honored as Academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education of China, and expert with Special government allowances of the State Council, Distinguished Professor of Sichuan University, Doctoral Supervisor of the State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, Director of Department of Zoology and Director of Institute of Neuroscience in Kunming Medical University. He is currently the vice chairman of Committee of General Hospital of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies with a member of Nerve Regeneration and Repair Standing Committee of the China Research Hospital, and a director of Chinese Society for Anatomical Sciences, and a member of Committee of the Neuroanatomy. He has presided over more than 20 national, provincial and ministerial projects, and won third prize of the Chinese Medicine Award, second prizes four times and third prizes five times of Natural Science and Science and Technology Progress Awards at provincial and ministerial level, then edited 23 books published by Science and People's Health Publishing House, 4 national textbooks for the 14th Five-Year Plan. Importantly, he has published 203 SCI international articles (as a corresponding author of 181 papers) in high-level international academic journals such as Nature Communication and over 400 Chinese papers. Meanwhile, he has obtained 11 patents authorized by China National Intellectual Property Administration.

Over the past 30 years, Professor Ting-hua Wang and his team have been indulged in the mechanism research of nerve injury and found the restorative strategies based on stem cell therapy and Chinese medicine. He uncovered the restorative mechanism in three CNS diseases, known as cerebral and spinal cord injury, cerebral vascular disease and neural degenerative disease, and find a series of effective treatment strategies. Firstly, he and his group established several animal models for neurological disorder from rat, tree shrew to non-human primate, and developed the effective treatment strategies based on retentive medicine of stem cell transplantation. One of the most important findings is that he revealed the key cell populations that is directly associated with the nerve injury and restoration, and explain cell communication link, as well as the characters of the genetic networks, then constructed the database that the phenomics tightly closed to the genome and proteome. Subsequently, he developed the studies of the function for critical core molecular and explain associated regulatory mechanism, so as to screen the most effective stem cell products and Chines medicines that could be used in the treatment of neurological disorder. In novel technology development, after integrated the single cell sequencing, transcriptome and proteomic analysis, together with the experimental validation, he and his team anchored the core genes that can affect trauma (cerebral and spinal cord injury), ischemia /anoxia and hemorrhage impairment (cerebral vascular disease), aging degeneration (neural degeneration disease), and analyzed functional association between the non-encoding RNA and their regulatory mRNA, so as to provide the novel theory and targets for different causes neurological disease and differential repair strategy. All of these contributions are largely improving the recognition in the field, and provide potential products like human urine stem cell that could be used for the treatment of neurological disorder in clinic practice. Besides, he is also a specially appointed professor and reviewing expert of the Changjiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education.
