Ming-Hua QiuMing-Hua Qiu


Dr. Ming-Hua Qiu was born in Lijiang,Yunnan Province, China, in 1963,Naxi ethnic minority. He received his B.Sc. degree (1984) in Physical Chemistry and his Ph.D. degree (1996) in Organic Chemistry from Peking University. After university, he joined the Phytochemistry Lab of the Kunming Institute of Botany, CAS. He studied at the University of Tokyo (1989), Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University (1998, 2000), and University of Illinois at Chicago (2003) as graduated student, post doctor and visiting scholar, respectively. He was promoted to full professor in 1997, doctoral supervisor in 2002. He is currently the head of the Research Team on Phytochemistry and Plant Resource Utilization. He is also a member of the 11th and 12th Pharmacopoeia Committee of the People's Republic of China, and was the director of China Coffee Engineering Research Center. He has presided over more than 30 projects of NSFC、NMST,CAS、Yunnan Province, ect.

In his 40-years career, Professor & Dr. Qiu has in-depth studied on the chemical constituents and their biofunctions、 effective mechanisms of more than 40 medicinal plants such as Buxaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Meliaceae, Ganoderma, Cimicifuga, and MACA, coffee, bitter melon, safflower, Acerola cherry. He discovered more than 800 new natural product molecules from the medicinal plants, including more than 30 bioactive compounds with potential application value, and more than 80 novel skeleton structures found first time. he is the author of over 380 publications(including SCI 260 papers, most of them are published in Top 15% Journals), the applicant of 66 China Invention Patents and the editor of 3 Monographs. With the times frontiers, Professor Qiu has built an intelligent database of NMR+ bioactivity through Machine Learning, can quickly discover novel bioactive natural compunds by neural network analysis techniques and determine chemical structures (NRP,2023); His Research Team is one of the world's leading teams in the field of Phytochemistry and plant resource utilization. So he was the winner of the Qiushi Outstanding Youth Award in 2006, and was selected into the national "BaiQianWan Talents Project" in 1996,Won more than 10 national and provincial academic awards. He focus on biologically active natural products new molecules from traditional medicinal plants. and also was focused on the utilization of plant resources, such as using the technology of green processing and flavor control for coffee to industrialization, seed oil of Jatropha fruits to produce biodiesel and pyrethrum to manufacture green pesticide, which pioneered first generation and second generation green processing technology of 50%, 60%, 70% natural pyrethrin pesticide, and large-scale promotion and application. He also completed the research and development of 4 health care products and obtained the production license certificate.
