Lu Jiahai
Professor Lu Jiahai is a supervisor of doctoral students in epidemiology/microbiology, and a supervisor of master students in pharmacy/Experimental Zoology/Inspection and quarantine. He is the Director of the Key Laboratory for Quality Monitoring and Evaluation of Vaccines and Biological Products of the National Medical Products Administration, the Director of One Health Research Center, School of Public Health, Sun Yat-sen University, the Director of the Overall Health Center at Hainan Medical College, editor of One Health Bulletin, and a visiting professor at the State University of New York and Edith Cowan University in Australia. He has long been engaged in research on key prevention and control technologies for emerging infectious diseases. During the SARS epidemic in 2003, he was a member of the SARS Scientific and Technological Research leading Group of Guangdong Province and served as the deputy leader of the vaccine group. As a special invited expert of the World Health Organization (WHO), he was twice invited to Geneva and Rotterdam to discuss the "SARS virus vaccine and animal model" research program. In December 2019, the COVID-19 outbreak occurred. As a member of the Guangdong Provincial and National Infectious Disease Prevention and Control expert Group, he teamed up with an internationally renowned infectious disease expert, the "virus hunter" and winner of the "International Science and Technology Cooperation Award" (2015), Professor Ian WLipkin of Columbia University to establish international cooperation and became the first to put forward important recommendations such as "banning wildlife trade and wild animal abuse". He carried out research on key prevention and control technologies for emerging infectious diseases, participated in special research on virus traceability, and jointly applied for national and Guangdong science and technology research projects, and he was received by Academician Gao Fu (Director of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention), Academician Xu Guanhua (former Minister of Science and Technology), Academician Chen Zhu (Vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress), Li Bin (deputy director of the National Health Commission) and other leaders.
He has published more than 400 academic papers in Science, Clin Infect Dis, Emerg Infect Dis, J Infect Dis, PloS Negl Trop Dis, Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine, Chinese Journal of Epidemiology and other famous journals at home and abroad, translated, edited and participated in the compilation of more than 10 monographs and textbooks, won 2 second prizes and 3 third prizes for provincial and ministerial science and technology progress, and obtained more than 10 invention patents. He was awarded third class military merit once and won honors such as "Advanced Individual in the Fight against SARS".
As an advocate of One Health in China and an important member of the international One Health field, he established the first One Health research center in China and held two influential One Health international forums (in 2014 and 2019). As one of the applicant, preparatory chairman and executive Chairman (Academician Gao Fu, Academician Xu Jianguo, Academician Chen Junshi and Academician Zhao Guoping jointly served as the executive chairman), he held the 697th Xiangshan Science Conference with the theme of "one health and human health" and reached four important consensus, which were submitted to thirteen relevant ministries and committees including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Health Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Natural Science Foundation Committee.
