Prof. Yang has long been engaged in basic and clinical research on the combination of Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of immune diseases at the forefront, as well as the construction of the one health industry chain, etc. Prof. Yang has made remarkable achievements in the development of new drugs through medical summary of clinical experience, evidence-based translation, and reverse innovation. Based on the systematic study of the treatment of psoriasis with TCCM, a new natural plant drug, he proposed relevant theories and made achievements as below: First, by studying the multi-level, multi-target and multi-target regulation of the human body by various components of drugs, he proved the mechanism of the traditional Chinese medicine theories of "unity and integration of the body" and "evidence-based treatment" on the human body at the microscopic level; Second, through clinical observation and experimental research, he proposed the theory of "the essential correlation between the etiology, pathology and pathogenesis of allergic dermatitis, including atopic dermatitis, eczema, neurodermatitis and psoriasis, etc." (see invention patent for details).
Adhering to the idea of "upholding fundamental principles, breaking new ground and breaking the bottleneck" in the research and development of new drugs, Prof. Yang has always insisted on the direction of modernization, industrialization and internationalization of Chinese medicine even under extremely difficult conditions.
He has been in charge of / completed national, Guangdong Province, Guangzhou City's key projects for regional agglomeration and development of strategic emerging industries, a number of major science and technology special projects. He independently developed the world's first new small molecule drug from natural plants for psoriasis, filling a global gap in this class of drug. He has obtained two patents for inventions from 35 developed countries in the world; two certificates for five types of new drugs in Chinese traditional medicine, as well as drug production licenses, drug production documents and pilot varieties of the Drug Listing Licensee System; and the approval of the U.S. clinical trial of a new drug (Phase IIb), which has already been completed with promising efficacy. In addition, he has studied and formulated a draft of "New International Standard for Evaluating Efficacy of New Drugs in the Treatment of Psoriasis", and the relevant new drug is in the U.S. phase III clinical trial of a new drug.
Prof. Yang also received the 14th China Patent Excellence Award, the 15th China Patent Excellence Award, the Important Technical Achievement Award of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China for Major Scientific and Technological Projects, the 6th China Overseas Chinese Contribution (Innovation Achievement) Award, the Gold Award of Guangdong Patent, and the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Advancement in Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangdong Province.
Prof. Yang looks forward to collaborating with more international academic colleagues in the future to explore new ways for the transformation of scientific and technological innovations in natural plants (traditional Chinese medicine) and promote the high-quality development of biomedical industry and economy!
