He HongxuanHe Hongxuan


Prof. He Hongxuan is a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Chief Scientist of the National Science and Technology Support Project, Member of the Expert Group of the State Council Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism for Major Infectious Diseases, and Head of the Asia-Pacific Wildlife Disease Cooperation Network. He also serves as the Deputy Director of the Committee on Wildlife Origin and Wildlife Diseases of the China Wildlife Conservation Association, Vice President of the Wildlife Veterinary Branch of the China Veterinary Medical Association, Chairman of the Animal Disease Working Group of the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS), and the member of the International Wildlife Disease Association.

He has been extensively involved in the ecological study of zoonotic diseases, the co-evolutionary relationship between pathogens and hosts, and the spread, evolution, and mechanisms of infection differentiation of important infectious diseases originating from wildlife. He has participated in the traceability and prevention and control work of major outbreaks such as the 2009 H1N1 influenza, the 2013 H7N9 influenza, and the 2020 SARS-Cov-2 pandemic. He has also dealt with sudden outbreaks of rare wildlife diseases, such as South China tiger myocarditis, canine distemper, and Contracaecum sp. in night herons.

He has published over 350 academic papers in journals such as Cell Reports, The Journal of Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infectious Diseases, and Emerging Microbes & Infections. Additionally, he holds more than 40 national invention patents and has authored 20 books, including "Introduction to Wildlife Diseases," "Virology and Infection," "Handbook of Prevention and Treatment of Type H1N1," and "Diseases at the Wildlife – Livestock Interface: Research and Perspectives in a Changing World". He has received honors such as Outstanding Youth of Henan Province, Qianjiang Scholar, and Advanced Individual in the Protection of Forests and Wildlife Resources by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
