He has long been dedicated to the research and teaching of hybrid rice, and has made important achievements in the theoretical and technological innovation of hybrid rice breeding, the selection and promotion of new varieties, and industrialization. He has developed more than 70 sterile lines and new varieties of rice, obtained 9 new plant variety rights, and obtained 12 international and domestic invention patents. He has published over 360 papers, and authored 9 monographs and textbooks. He has supervised more than 120 postgraduate students, and has won 17 science and technology awards, including 1 Grand Prize for National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, 1 second prize, 6 first prizes, and 4 second prizes at the provincial and ministerial level. He has also won 7 provincial-level teaching achievement awards, including 1 special prize, 4 first prizes, and 2 second prizes. His achievements have played a significant role in promoting the development of dual-variety hybrid rice, double-season super rice, and high-quality rice in China.
