Guonian LuGuonian Lu

Prof. Guonian Lu, Ph.D. in Cartography and Geographic Information System (GIS), Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, is mainly engaged in the research of geography and geographic information science. His research results have led the development of theories and methods of geographic information science in China, promoted the progress of geography in the era of big data and artificial intelligence, achieved breakthroughs in core technologies and major applications in industrial fields, and supported the rapid growth of the GIS profession in China and the demand for specialized personnel training. The first set of GIS series textbooks (27 books) presided over by him formed an exemplary and leading GIS curriculum system and talent cultivation mode, enhancing the influence of geography discipline of Nanjing Normal University at home and abroad. He took the lead in declaring and constructing discipline platforms such as national first-class construction discipline of geography of Nanjing Normal University, national key discipline of cartography and GIS, and key laboratory of virtual geographic environment of the Ministry of Education.

His main academic contributions are as follows: 1. proposed a geographic information model for the spatial integration of nature-humanities-information, and developed a cross-domain fusion and integration method of geographic information; 2. proposed a service-oriented sharing and coupling integration method of geographic model for the comprehensive analysis of geographic system, including the development of a cyberspace geo-simulator with China's own brand features; 3. proposed geo-scenario science for real-world real perception and multi-modal expression, which innovates holographic map modeling, location aggregation and spatialized service methods. He has published 534 papers, of which he served as first/corresponding author in 106 papers (including 3 in Nature Reviews Earth & Environment and other Nature sub journals); he has published 25 books with 7014 citations. He has been authorized 54 national invention patents and participated in 13 national and industrial standards. He has presided over 6 national key projects, such as National Key Research and Development Program of China, National Natural Science Key Fund, etc. He has won the first and second prizes of national "Progress Prize in Science", the first prize of Ministry of Education's "Natural Science" award, and the Grand Prize of "China Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress". His achievements have been selected as one of the "Top Ten Research Progresses in China's Geoscience".

He has been selected for the "National Talents Project" of the Ministry of Human Resources and the "Trans-Century Excellent Talents Program" of the Ministry of Education. He is an expert enjoying the special government allowances of the State Council, a "Trans-Century Academic Leader" of Jiangsu Province, and a model worker of Jiangsu Province. He is also a member of the Geography Discipline Review Group of the State Council, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, Director of the Virtual Geographic Environment Specialized Committee of the China Committee of The International Society for Digital Earth, President of the Jiangsu Society of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of GIS, the journal of the CPGIS, etc.
