Dr. Genlou Sun completed his Ph.D. at Sichuan Agricultural University in 1994, and was promoted to Professor in 1995 at the Triticeae Research Institute of Sichuan Agricultural University. He was postdoctoral follow at University of Haifa, Israel, Swedish University of Agricultural Science and University of Guelph. He is now a full Professor in the Department of Biology, Saint Mary’s University, Canada, and was the international Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Nanjing Agricultural University (2018-2023), Anhui Provincial Distinguished Professor at Anhui Agricultural University (2016-2020) and distinguished Adjunct Professor at Huazhong Agricultural University, China (2009-2013).

His research focuses on molecular phylogeny and systematics of Triticeae, and understanding molecular mechanisms that might promote speciation after whole-genome duplication, especially in ecology, physiology and evolution, and uuntangling the molecular mechanisms advancing adaptive in autopolyploid. His research also uses molecular genetics as a key tool to study genetic diversity of plant species, and to identify genes in agriculturally important crops, and to help understanding how the plant response to environmental change, and how the cell response to bacterial or fungi infection at DNA level.

He has published more than 180 papers in reputable journals and has been serving as an editorial board member for several international journals such as Molecular breeding, Frontier in Genetics, the Crop Journal, Peer Journal, PLoS One etc. He has been awarded as one of ten excellent youth researchers in 1995 by Sichuan Provincial Government and received the second-class award of research achievement from Chinese government, and the first-class award of research achievement from Sichuan Provincial government, P. R. China.
