Gao FengGao Feng

Gao Feng, male, born in 1961, professor and director of the Institute of Molecular and Medical Virology at Jinan University and director of Foshan Institute of Pathogenic Microbiology. Professor Gao Feng is a well-known AIDS research expert who has studied HIV and related fields for more than 30 years, and has made significant contributions to the research fields of HIV origin, genetic variation and evolution, pathogenicity, drug resistance, fitness, mechanisms for developing broadly neutralizing antibodies, drug resistance and vaccine. He has published over 200 scientific research papers, including many in the top tier journals such as Cell, Nature, Science and New England Journal of Medicine. His publications have been cited over 30,000 times based on the Google Scholar database. He discovered the origin of HIV-1 in chimpanzees, developed a consensus gene vaccine approach for induction of cross-reactive immune responses, studied the coevolution of broadly neutralizing antibodies and HIV-1, discovered a cooperative mechanism between different lineages of antibodies to drive maturation of the broadly neutralizing antibodies and found that recombination and purifying selection pressure play an important role in emergence of SARS-CoV-2.
