Fuxiang ZhangFuxiang Zhang

Fuxiang Zhang received his Ph. D. degree from Nankai University, China in 2004. Currently Dr. Zhang is a professor of physical chemistry and doctoral supervisor at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the leader of the "Solar hydrogen storage materials and catalysis research group". He has been engaged in the research of solar-to-chemical conversion for over twenty years, and has made a series of innovative research achievements in the areas of photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, precise synthesis of materials, in situ characterizations and catalytic reaction mechanism etc. To date, he has designed and synthesized more than 30 cases of novel materials with such functions as wide range of visible light capture, efficient heterogenous catalytic water oxidation, and selective catalytic carbon dioxide reduction. Meanwhile, it contains the first artificial water oxidation catalyst with TOF value comparable to the natural photosynthetic PSII system. Furthermore, he has developed methods and strategies for precise synthesis of materials and interface regulation, and has obtained new understanding of underlying reaction mechanism to the heterogeneous catalytic water oxidation and selective reduction of carbon dioxide. It is worth noting that Dr. Zhang’s group has assembled a series of powder-suspended systems for visible light catalytic total decomposition water hydrogen production, which not only greatly expands the use of visible light, but also refreshes and maintains the international record of apparent quantum efficiency of visible light catalytic total decomposition water hydrogen production. He has published more than 200 papers in Nat. Catal., Nat. Commun., Joule, J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. and Adv. Mater. He has presided over the Outstanding Youth Fund, Outstanding Youth Fund and key projects of the National Foundation Committee. Key R&D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology; Class B pilot project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, "Hundred Talents Plan" and other projects. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the national "Millions of Talents Project", the title of "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions", and enjoyed the special allowance of the State Council.
