Fu-Cheng LinFu-Cheng Lin


Prof. Fu-Cheng Lin, is a Zhejiang Provincial Special Expert, Winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2009), and currently President of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Vice Chairman of Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology. President Lin is an internationally renowned expert in plant pathology. He has been mainly engaged in basic theoretical research and technological development related to the prevention and control of plant fungal diseases, and has made outstanding achievements in three aspects: the pathogenic mechanism of pathogenic fungi, the endophytic fungi-induced resistance, and the creation of disease-resistant germplasm by distant hybridization. In fungal pathogenesis, he has solved the international problem of mRNA extraction from appressorium of Magnaporthe oryzae, firslty cloned the autophagy-related genes, proved the relation between autophagy and pathogenicity, which opened the research field of autophagy in plant pathogenic fungi. In the endophytic fungi-induced resistance, he established a new model of evolution and interaction among endophytic fungi, pathogenic fungi and plants, and proposed the theory of using endophytic fungi induced rice immunity to prevent and control rice blast disease, and developed a series of biological agents and fertilizers such as Trichodermin fungicide, Harpophora oryzae resistance inducer, Muscodor fumigant, which has made important contributions to the sustainable control of diseases and the green development of agriculture. In addition, he successfully established genomic DNA pollen tube introduction technology, introduced genomic DNA of corn, sorghum and other crops into rice, realized the interspecific hybridization of rice and gramineous plants, created more than 40 rice materials with high resistance to rice blast, stress resistance, high quality and high yield.

He has published more than 280 papers (195 SCI papers,18 papers with IF >10, including 2 papers in Cell Host & Microbe (IF2023=30.3), and 3 papers in Autophagy (IF2023=13.3) with a total IF of 496 and more than 13,000 citations (>10,000 times citated by others and up to 2,683 times in a single paper). He published 3 monographs, and 141 authorized invention patents, of which more than 20 patents have been applied industrially. Moreover, he, as the first author, has won the first prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Award (2022), the first prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Technological Invention Award (2019), the second prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education (2013), the third prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Southeast Asian Agricultural Technology Outstanding Achievement Award (2016), and the China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Promotion Award (2022).
