Fanrong Liang, lifetime professor and doctoral supervisor of Chengdu University of TCM, vice chairman of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies, national key discipline leader of acupuncture-moxibustion and tuina, chief scientist of two National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program), holder of Major Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), State Council expert for special allowance, nationally outstanding scientific and technological worker, winner of the National Innovation Forefront Award, winner of the National Outstanding Contribution Award for TCM, chief scientist of the Qihuang Project of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, outstanding teacher of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Program", the nationally famous instructor of TCM experience inheritance, winner of Outstanding Contribution Award of Science and Technology and Outstanding Talent Award of Sichuan Province, Tianfu outstanding scientist of the "Ten Thousand Talents Program", and outstanding experts with prominent contributions in Sichuan Province.

Prof. Liang has been engaged in theoretical and clinical research of acupuncture and moxibustion, medical care and public health, and education for a long time, closely combining with the needs of healthy China and TCM inheritance, innovation and development. And based on two national 973 Program (the first one in the field of acupuncture and moxibustion) and Major Program of NSFC (the first one in the field of TCM), etc., he focused on solving the scientific theory of acupuncture points, clinical application and innovative methods of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Aiming at the international academic debate on “whether there is specificity in acupoints”, he and his team systematically confirmed the existence of acupoint specificity, revealed its biological basis and characteristics of acupoint sensitization, and objectively answered the doubts of the international academic circle on acupoint specificity. He and his team have established an evidence-based acupuncture theory system, organized a series of high-quality clinical studies, and built an evidence-based acupuncture clinical decision and support platform, which promotes the transformation of acupuncture clinical decision from experience to best evidence. Besides, Prof. Liang has innovated the interdisciplinary research methods of acupuncture and moxibustion, which promoted the organic integration of acupuncture principles with modern biology, artificial intelligence, etc., and promoted the basic and applied research level of acupuncture and moxibustion. The research achievements have effectively guided the acupuncture clinical practice in China and internationally, and made significant economic and social benefits, and he made important contributions to promoting the inheritance, innovation and development of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and enhancing China's position in the research fields of World Traditional Medicine and Health. His research achievements have won 1 Second Class Prize for Scientific and Technology Progress (STP) of State Education Ministry of China, and nine ministerial and provincial First Class prizes for STP. As an outstanding teacher on campus, Prof. Liang has won several prizes for teaching achievements, including one Second Class Prize of state-level and six First Class Prizes of Sichuan Province. Besides, Prof. Liang has published more than 700 papers, including more than 200 Science Citation Index (SCI) journals (ranking first in the international field of acupuncture), and was selected as a highly cited scholar of Elsevier in China. He has edited 13 national planning textbooks and 13 academic monographs, and obtained 18 authorized invention patents, 20 utility model patents and 2 computer software copyrights.
