The discovery of temperature sensitive genic male sterile material for the first time has led to the development of the world's first indica rice temperature sensitive genic male sterile line, Annong S-1, providing a key genic male sterile gene resource tms5 for two-line hybrid rice. The invention of temperature sensitive two-line hybrid rice technology has opened up new avenues for utilizing hybrid advantages and promoted the development of crop genetics and breeding. We have created practical thermosensitive male sterile lines and breeding techniques for thermosensitive hybrid rice. We have created 8 practical thermosensitive male sterile lines such as 810S and Shuang1S, and cultivated 76 new thermosensitive two-line hybrid rice varieties such as Baliangyou 100 and Shuangliangyou 138. Among them, 810S is the first practical thermosensitive nuclear sterile line and Baliangyou 100 is the first thermosensitive two-line hybrid rice, playing an important leading role in the development of thermosensitive two-line hybrid rice. We have created a hybrid rice quality improvement technology with both parents having excellent quality, small differences in quality traits, and low sensitivity to the environment. We have bred 13 national approved high-yield varieties of second grade high-quality rice or above, such as Shuangliangyou Taizhen and H-liangyou 532, which are first-class high-quality rice, achieving coordinated development of quality and high-yield. We have taken the lead in researching and creating a technical system for breeding thermosensitive male sterile lines using high altitude natural low temperatures, as well as a new technology for producing core seeds of thermosensitive male sterile lines using natural low temperatures. This has solved the dual problems of difficult reproduction and unsafe seed production, providing technical support for the rapid and stable development of the two line method. Hosted the collaborative research on hybrid japonica rice, established high-quality and high-yield hybrid japonica rice breeding technology, bred and promoted the hybrid japonica rice Tianlongyou 619 with high seed production yield and first-class quality, solving the problem of low seed production yield and poor quality, which is a major breakthrough in hybrid japonica rice research.
